Overland Expo is the world’s most unique event series for do-it-yourself adventure travel enthusiasts, with hundreds of session-hours of classes for 4-wheel-drive enthusiasts and adventure motorcyclists, inspirational programs, the Overland Film Festival, roundtable discussions, demonstrations, food, and a large expo featuring over 300 vendors of adventure travel equipment, camping gear, bikes, vehicles, and services.
This was our first time attending and wow, we will definitely be back. We went into this event hoping to find more of a selection to find either a teardrop trailer or an off-road trailer with a roof-top tent (RTT). We also wanted to feel all the feels and attend all the classes possible. We had no idea what to expect.
We did the Overland Experience package and stayed in the camping at the event. Crystal was adamant that we get there as early as possible once the gates opened so we wouldn’t be in the sticks. It worked. But, we were by the road and had our share of dust in our camp. The one plus to being by the road was the show that we got of all of the awesome rigs coming in. Oooh so many ideas!!
The weather was colder than you would think for Arizona. The last day (Sunday) we saw snow!! But it was not that bad. We preferred the chilly weather over being extremely hot.
It was easier to eat at the food trucks than hoof it back to our camp to make the food we brought. Part of that was due to the fact that Crystal was limited on the amount of walking she could do (back surgery was T-minus 2 weeks away). Part of it was because we wanted to see the things and get to class on time.
We highly recommend attending if you are getting into overlanding or off-roading. We are already planning on going back next year.
AND…. we did buy a trailer!! We purchased a Tuff Stuff Overland Base Camp Trailer with a Tuff Stuff Elite Overland Roof-top Tent.
